Someone told me they had seen a Hummingbird Hawkmoth too, recently.
Lots of white butterflies on our lavender hedges, and some female small blues (brown I think are the females).
And multitudes of all kinds of bees. Lovely.

I've noticed there are lots of butterflies this year. I have loads of of different types of lavender too as I like the bees they attract.

Jeane, you`re right, there are an awful lot of butterflies about this year. I finally managed to get one to pose up the cliff`s today for me, and I`m sure someone can tell us what it is.

I really do not see the signal.

Jeane, I came on this thread to post this picture rather than start up one for butterflies, and was thinking today that someone had mentioned on here about the number of them about, but couldn`t remember who till I came across your post above. I took about 12 images today, but this was the only decent one out of the lot. They just won`t keep still.

I really do not see the signal.

I just couldn't resist adding 'it's a butterfly' to your comment about 'I'm sure someone can tell us what it is'! Smiley
You got a good shot there. I often follow them around with a camera, when one landed on the garden fence the other day it stayed there for about 10 mins so I went upstairs to get my camera and then it decided to fly off!

You have a lovely sense of humour Jeane, and I`ll try and leave myself wide open for you`re wit when doing future posting`s, but be quick before other`s get in there first. Smiley

Jenni, firstly how do you know what sex it is from a photo, and secondly, how do you know it's called Vanessa?

I asked my pot plant the same question and almost got an exact reply. It said "Genus Sid, because I am a genus".
