HOWARD;
Let me repeat what I said, This subject by VIC is a lot of TOSH
but I defend vic's right to post whatever he wishes.

He has a viewpoint, and on subject I don't agree with him.

Nowt wrong with that.

But be clear I do NOT agree with SILENCING people because I don't share there view as Sid and others are indicating.

From my great mansion with room for a pony in the paddock I can see a man walking up and down the road .He seems to be wearing a sack cloth with ashes .

I might find one of my pricely sums of gold bells for him to ring .

I do give away my hidden wealth every year by planting the bulbs in the village and giving to charity .Supporting Age Concern and Village events .My time is worth its wait in gold .

I think it's clear no one supports vic's view and that's fine, a lot of people in Dover
give a lot of time (which often cost's money) or real dosh.

I hope we will never return to those dreary days of only being able to be a cllr if you have dosh, that;s a bad route.

The late Frank Woodbridge(labour cllr) told me a story of work he often dd as employment prior to becoming a cllr some in conservative houses, clubs, business's etc.
When he became a labour cllr(he did it two long terms!!!) his contracts dried up.

funny old game as grievesy said lol

On the Labour side we have to Doctors and one on the Tory front bench as well I believe, not medical doctors so we have the brains too Sue,but being Rich or Intelligent doesn't mean you are a good Councillor,as being poor means you are a bad Cllr.
The beauty of Councils is that it is a cross section of the electorate, and hard work in your ward isn't about money or intelligence it is about getting out there and working for your people.

And long may it c-ontinue John.

There is a lot of talent out there amongst all the cllrs from all parties,
but so many restrctions
also realy councils have few powers these days, and thats unlikely to change under
ANY GOVERNMENT
But I do hope i'm proved wrong.

the parliament has to go five years, i believe that all parliaments have to go this distance now by law.

Mark - a lot better than the mess inherited that is certain, whether 18 months (unlikely) or 5 years.

Howard - that's not the case. The process has been to remove the PM's right to call an election at a time of his chosing and to pass that to parliament. The idea being that it would indeed be a 5 year term unless the government loses a no confidence vote. I dont believe the legislative changes are in place yet.

in effect barry 5years guaranteed.
the yellows will not bring the government down, they would lose most of their seats.
even if that happened the reds will not call for a vote of no confidence, they are leaderless, rudderless and have not decided their future policies.

I think what you are saying is right Howard - the LDs are locked into the coalition until the fruits of the difficult decisions are showing. That is why Keith is wrong about his 18 months. It will be 5 years.
